The sad reality is that summer is nearing its end. And while the warm days and nights will soon be a thing of the past, we can still revel in summer's last stand- Labor Day Weekend! And I promise, Chicago doesn't disappoint in fun (and FREE) activities that'll give you, your friends, and family plenty to do this weekend and reminiscent about in the colder months. Take a look below for your guide to Labor Day Weekend in Chicago!
Call it serendipity if you will, but this Labor Day Weekend finds one of Chicago's oldest, free lakefront music festivals happening the same weekend- Chicago Jazz Fest! From September 1-4 a number of acts will perform for free at The Chicago Cultural Center with headliners each night at Millennium Park. So bring a blanket and pack a picnic and see the best in jazz!
While Chicago SummerDance has been held all summer long, Labor Day Weekend finds its grand conclusion. Come out to Grant Park from September 2-4 and take advantage of the free dance lessons (I know I could use some!) and the various live bands performing all on an outdoor dance floor. Also, did I mention this is free?
Every Labor Day Weekend the largest diaspora festival in The U.S. takes up residence in Washington Park- The African Festival of The Arts! During the weekend, the park gets transformed into a simulated African village complete with music, African heritage & spirituality, fine art, books, and of course food!
