The Field Museum of Chicago: Exhibits, Tours & Children's Activities

Learn about everything from science and history to archaeology at The Chicago Field Museum. Founded in 1893, it is one of the largest museums of its kind in the world. View a wide array of changing and permanent exhibits, and enjoy hands-on activities for children. Meet Sue, the T-Rex, explore Underground Adventure, Evolving Planet, and Restoring the Earth. Take a docent-led tour of Pawnee Earth Lodge, see the wonders of  Galapagos and Wild Africa in 3D, or travel back in time to Ancient Egypt and the Americas. The Field Museum is part of Chicago's Museum Campus where the Adler Planetarium and Shedd Aquarium are also housed.

FAQs

  • Are Tours Offered? Is photography Allowed? Where Do I Park?

Docent-led tours are available daily. The free tour includes highlights of the most famous and unique exhibits plus a tour of the Pawnee Earth Lodge.  You’re allowed to photograph museum exhibits with a hand-held camera or phone camera unless it says otherwise. Commercial photos can only be taken with prior written permission. Soldier Field North Garage, East Museum Lot and additional lots at the Adler Planetarium accommodate visitors to the Field Museum.
  • How do I get tickets? Are Backpacks Allowed? do You Have Dining?

The museum recommends that you buy tickets for special exhibitions in advance online. Tickets can also be purchased at The Field Museum but they’re on a first-come, first-served basis. To protect fragile exhibits and other guests, backpacks, shopping bags and luggage must be stored at the convenient coat check area. A family-friendly menu of breakfast and lunch items is served at the Field Bistro and Explorer Cafe. Both feature locally produced, sustainable products.
