2018 Lunar New Year Celebrations in Chicago
You’ll find many more Chicago events for Lunar New Year – but these are some of the highlights:
- Chinese New Year Concert at Symphony Center: Acrobatic choreography from the Chonqing Chuanju Opera Theatre plus traditional folk music played on traditional instruments by the Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra. (February 17)
- Argyle Street Lunar New Year Parade: Kicking off at the Argyle Red Line stop, this colorful Uptown procession features floats, firecrackers, and dragon dancers. (February 24)
- Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade: Enjoy lion dancing, decorated floats, marching bands, and traditional Chinese dragons at this Year of the Dog parade. (February 25)
- Chinese New Year Lantern Celebration: The Art Institute of Chicago hosts this unique event, which includes lantern making workshops, Chinese food, and traditional music – ending with an illuminated lantern procession at sunset. Be sure to check out the exhibit "Mirroring China's Past: Emperors, Scholars, and their Bronzes” while you’re there. (March 3)
