Thanksgiving isn't complete without turkey, football, and of course a magnificent parade! November 24th marks not only Thanksgiving but the McDonald's Thanksgiving Parade running along State St. in downtown Chicago! Read on for your guide to the festivities including the best viewing spots, lineup of events, plus the lowdown on everything parade related!
Typically the rule of thumb in grabbing a good spot for any parade is to arrive as early as you can. The fun starts at 8am so the parade organizers recommend getting to the parade route as early as 6am. It can be cold this time of year so bringing some hot chocolate is never a bad idea! The best advice in getting a great spot is the farther north you go along State St. the less crowded it will be- so if you're looking to avoid crowds and have a great view this is where you'll want to be. Certainly though, north is not your only option for there's a bunch of great sites to choose from! If you wanna check out the parade come into formation the east side of State. St. between Congress and Harrison is your spot. And if head a few blocks north on State St. at Van Buren you can catch the floats limbo underneath the El tracks up above!
And now you're probably curious about the lineup of this year's parade! This year there's everything from Equestrians, to floats, to marching bands, to honored guests! Expect to see The American Sidesaddle Association, miniature horses, plus The International Horseman's League & Friends! This year we'll have floats presented by The Chicago Zoological Society, WGN TV, The Assyrian American Civic Club of Chicago, plus the Huaxing Arts Troupe of Chicago! And as if this lineup wasn't enough already, this year the parade welcomes honored guests The Harlem Globetrotters, Miss Illinois and Mill Illinois Teen, plus Chicago and Veep star Matt Walsh!
