Chicago sure is a city that honors history, after all, so much history has taken place here within The Windy City from great fires, to blizzards, to strikes. But honoring an international tradition we have the 21st Annual Christkindlmarket from November 18th-December 24th— an homage to the Christkindlesmarkt having begun in Nuremberg, Germany in 1545. After all, Chicago has a rich connection to German history, there are a number of streets named after German writers in the Old Town neighborhood (Goethe & Schiller), and did somebody say sausage? So it's only befitting the city hosts an open-air christmas market!
This is truly a unique shopping experience— complete with various vendors selling all sorts of items perfect for anyone on your holiday shopping list! Best of all a number of vendors are international— setting up shop here at the market just for the event! Here you'll find Bavarian produced beer & wine glasses, Augsburg made honey products (including candles, candy, soap), a number of christmas ornaments, plus Saxony's finest lace products. Plus German classics such as nutcrackers, cuckoo clocks, and beer steins. It sure will be hard to resist the urge to buy something for yourself!
Completing your German shopping experience is a full list of food and beverage vendors dishing up some truly authentic German grub. There will be plenty of German beer and cheese to go around and of course plenty of bratwurst, Currywurst, and Druidwurst! And be sure to save room for desert ‘cause the stuffed pretzels, gourmet chocolate, and sweet strudel sure sounds delicious. And best yet, reserve a stammtisch for you and your friends where you can enjoy the market with a festively decorated table, souvenir mugs, and prepaid food and drink!
