The Bucktown Arts Fest is a neighborhood celebration of the arts with a thirty-year Chicago arts tradition that now welcomes 40,000 people to Holstein Park annually. This year's edition returns on Saturday & Sunday, August 27 and 28.
The Bucktown Arts Fest is a Chicago arts festival that invites a jury-selected collection of 190 artists to present their works to the public in an environment that celebrates the vibrancy of the Bucktown and Wicker Park neighborhoods. Originating over 30 years ago with only four artists, the Bucktown Arts Fest is now one of Chicago's favorite annual arts events, welcoming over 40,000 people to Holstein Park each year. The Bucktown Arts Fest is unique in that it's non-profit and all-volunteer, with all proceeds from the fest going to fund, develop and support arts education programming in the area.
The Bucktown Arts Fest also includes live music on two stages, one dedicated strictly to jazz. Like the artists who display their work here, the musicians who perform during the Fest live in Bucktown and its surrounding areas. Musical styles represented include blues, bluegrass, jazz, indie rock, experimental and even punk poetry.
Poetry is a particular focus of the 2016 edition of the Bucktown Arts Fest, as the Fresh Voices showcase will offer poets 18 years of age and under the opportunity to read their work on the festival stages.
As part of its philosophical commitment to the community, the Bucktown Arts Fest is free to all, with no gates and no suggested donation. Downtown Chicago hotel accommodations convenient to the Bucktown Arts Fest can be reserved at Holiday Inn Mark Plaza.
